Steven Spielberg is the most famous directors working today. He has directed tons and tons of movies. Today he has announced that not only will he be directing the remake of the popular “West Side Story” musical, he has created a brand new character for himself to play in the movie called “Papa Toby”.
“Papa Toby is a brand new character I invented for myself to play in West Side Story.” said the movie maestro in an exclusive interview. “I’m always directing movies but I wanted to give acting in a movie a shot, and I thought, why don’t I bring a totally new character to a classic? Yes! Yes!!! I will become Papa Toby!”
Papa Toby will have several musical numbers, including a full-cast number “Papa Toby’s a Friend of a Friend” in which every character sings about how Papa Toby is their friend.
“Papa Toby is, like, the coolest guy ever. And he also can time travel. Honestly this version of West Side Story is gonna be the best, because I get to play Papa Toby in it, and I also created Papa Toby.”
Reportedly the inclusion of Papa Toby has warranted multiple script changes, including a climax in which Papa Toby saves Tony from being killed and unites the Sharks and the Jets by showing them how awesome movies and TV are.
“A bunch of executives said to me: You can’t do this. You can’t rewrite West Side Story so that Tony doesn’t die and have it be your character who saves him. You can’t add time travel to West Side Story. Um, yes I can. I fired all of those executives. I can do whatever I want. I’m Steven Spielberg.. or am I Papa Toby? Watch my new movie to find out!”
